The Spider Aerodinamica is an early Series 3 Spider, an evolution of the Series 2 “Kamm Tail” cars, with the addition of a front splitter and rear boot spoiler, different bumpers and light clusters, to give the evergreen Series 105 Spider an updated, more aggressive stance.
We at Bonello Auto Services in Newcastle upon Tyne, Alfa Romeo specialists, discovered this solid example for a refreshing, to turn it into a worthy candidate for some classic top-down motoring in the summer.
Presented in AR 901 Gloss Black, riding on period-correct 14” Revolution 4-spoke alloy wheels (black with chrome rim highlights), this S3 Spider certainly turns a fair few heads in its current guise.
The 2-litre Alfa Twin Cam “Nord” engine has been expertly overhauled by us, subject to an engine-out job to replace all perishable items and the installation of a new radiator,water pump,heater matrix, and is currently running on dual Dellorto carbs which have also been overhauled, ; the drivetrain has seen the fitment of a new clutch, while all the syncros and in turn the gears engage with ease. new clutch hydraulics fitted and rotating electrics overhauled as well.
Suspension and brakes also fully overhauled. New suspension components include springs, dampers, arms, and bushes on all four corners. New brake calipers,discs,pads,master cylinders and hoses/pipes fitted with new Toyo Proxy tires fitted to complete the setup.
Bodywork, panels and overall structure in pristine condition for age, with tight shutlines and even panel gaps all round, and no signs of damage or major corrosion. Correct exterior trim and brightwork all present and complete for a S3 Spider Aerodinamica. Sills would require minor repairs, but such would be included in the price and to be carried out in-house upon receipt of a deposit.
Black leather interior and black convertible top have likely seen little use and is as good as new. Convertible top mechanism works properly and shows no observable leakage or moisture ingress.
Converted to RHD under previous ownership, the linkages, electrics and wiring have been meticulously checked and where necessary rectified to ensure all the controls, switchgear, and other driving amenities function as they should.
Car starts with ease and drives beautifully—instantaneous power delivery and throttle response while eager to climb the revs with the typical Alfa Twin Cam soundtrack to match, and would effortlessly cruise at motorway speeds. The ride is compliant and the handling sharp and precise as it should be, with a supple quality and without any ungainly creaks or rattles.
We have taken the utmost care and attention to ensure that this vehicle meets our usual high standards, ready to hit the open roads for the immediate enjoyment of its new owners, without the compromises in maintenance and reliability associated, often wrongly, with Italian classics.Please note that this is not a project car for someone to restore, but a very well presented, usable classic, which will not need any additional time or money spent on it.
