The realization has finally hit me – I’m an id!0t who can’t get started with renovations. That is, there was a half-hearted attempt 8–9 years ago to replace the rocker panel on one side. It was done, sort of, but as you can see from the pictures, it’s just putting lipstick on a pig.
I bought it on eBay during a pleasant wine buzz while reading Auto Italia and daydreaming after spotting a racing-prepped Spider in the magazine. I’m attaching a photo of a similar car for any new daydreamers – or for those with actual follow-through.
The car absolutely needs to be fully sandblasted and restored from the ground up. When I bought it 16 (!) years ago, I had big plans – oh yes, Sir! But the only thing I managed to do was let it deteriorate.
The good news is I have the papers for it and paid the VAT when I imported it. The car was drivable and complete, so I have the lights, bumpers, etc. There’s no doubt it’s a great project for the right person. I also bought a left front fender from Lopane in Italy. That alone cost a fair bit. It also comes with a hardtop as shown in the picture. It needs bracing/tinning along the lower edge of the window, under the window seal.
Engine turns around and water has been drained since it was put in storage. However, I would recommend full strip down and rebuild of the engine as well.
The car is in Norway, but I am willing to assist with transport, i.e. organizing transport from Norway at buyers’ expense. I would need payment up front. However, if you don’t trust me (and why should you..) then I am sure we can organise a client account at a lawyer in Bergen/Norway, where you can do money transfer to and when he/she see the car is away to the destination, the money will be transferred to my account.
